Apparently something precedes the hit because before she does it, she tells him that she is sorry.

I honestly hope there is more context for this because that slap leaves a lot of problems for Kate.
I don’t know if the writers grasped this, but Kate will be comitting at least 3 felonies in front of a room full of cops under color of authority.
1. Assault 2. Battery 3. Spousal abuse
All it would take is one person to make a phone call and Kate would be in trouble. Even though she apologized before hand and I'm assuming Castle doesn’t report it. Don’t even get me started on a police brutality charge and they’re playing it for laughs?

Like I said, there had better be some more context in the episode. Because that is the kinda thing that could cost Kate her job, at least a suspension.
Remember, this is meant to reinforce the idea of a separation. If Rick doesn't respond to it publicly in some way, then it wouldn't make sense for her to hit him in front of witnesses.

Really hope ur right because that little snippet took me right out of the promo. Not the Caskett i know, for any reason. Twist an ear, throw a drink in his face, kick his shin if u must - but that forceful hit was just brutal. They used to respect each other too much

I'm in.
"laissez les bons temps rouler"
Hey, everybody, let's have some fun
You only live but once
And when you're dead you're done, so
Let the good times roll, let the good times roll
I don't care if you're young or old
Get together, let the good times roll

On the other hand, if Kate later urges him to file a formal complaint over the slap, or at least pretend to, she could then hire the Criminal defense lawyer they suspect of working with Loc-sat and she can go to a business lunch with him where she discusses putting him on retainer. Thereby going to dinner or lunch with him WITHOUT a romantic context.
I could just see Hayley delivering a note from Rick (perhaps an invite to meet up somewhere) in an official looking envelope with the tag line "You've been served"

I get your drift Shutterbug but if that was to be the storyline why would she say sorry?

I get your drift Shutterbug but if that was to be the storyline why would she say sorry? Because she was about to slap him, I imagine. I doubt it was planned and she obvioisly didbt give him any time to prepare. It was the only thing she could think of to keep Espo off the scent. Once the deed is done, however they could work it into their plans.

I know Nathan loves to do these scenes and make it look much worse than it is. She probably hardly touched him and he made it look like she about knocked him out.

I know Nathan loves to do these scenes and make it look much worse than it is. She probably hardly touched him and he made it look like she about knocked him out. Well I doubt Stana actually slapped him, so I imagine it was choreographed between them like any fight scene would be. Though the one and only time my mother ever in my entire life slapped me in the face, she barely connected and I fell over backwards just from the shock of it, so Nathan would not have to go too far over the top. My concern is that the showrunners can't just have Kate slap Rick in the face in front of people and have those people who see it (and don't know it was a ruse) just let it go like it was okay. So to me it needs context afterward almost as much as it did beforehand. Rick has given Kate ample reason to want to slap him in the last 7 years and she never did before. Thy can't just pass it off like it was nothing.
