I remember watching this in 1977... I was 8, but I have always had a soft spot for it. There's an interesting story to this. "Peace on Earth" was written for Bowie who hated "Little Drummer Boy" so Crosby sung it. Bing didn't live to see the broadcast which lead to some conspiracy theories about a computer generated Crosby singing with Bowie. This is so cool! I have heard this song many times over the years but I didn't know they actually did record this together. I always thought it was done through recording studio magic. I had no idea that Bowie actually appeared on Crosby's Christmas show. Thanks, shutterbug and java!

I heard this song for the first time on General Hospital and is one of my favorites of the season. This song is on the Chicago Christmas album (the one with the wreath on the cover).

So far I'm up to Bowie and Bing and I've made chocolate chip, chocolate snowballs, and candy cane shaped sugar cookies. The gingerbread men will have to wait until tomorrow.

I'm about 60% done wrapping presents with Christmas music playing the entire time using Pandora's Christmas station.

Santa just completed his mission! With a sleeping child in the very next room, Santa has to be extremely stealthy. One small obstacle...our cat wouldn't stop meowing at "Santa" while he put out the presents. Said cat had to be locked in the bathroom until Santa's mission was completed. - Presents left under tree.
- Stocking stuffed.
- Cookie crumbs left on plate.
- Milk drunk.
- Apple for reindeer gone.
- Cat let out of bathroom.
Oh, the pressure! Santa's helper is finally able to get some sleep. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

A little bit of fanfic Christmas cheer... We used to get the NORAD website back when my niece was little, thought I'd have some fun with it.
24 December 2001 20:24 hours
"Black Knight leader we have contact Sierra Charlie one two niner bearing five hundred nautical miles on course to enter American airspace."
The lead aircraft of a flight of four F-15 fighters clicked his mic twice to acknowledge the air traffic controller from NORAD as he caught the five signal contacts bearing on his location. Only one of the five plots on his own radar reflected on his head's up display defied identification, though this was expected. He flipped over to the "guard" channel and announced himself to the flight of four Royal Canadian Air Force F/A-18 fighters in formation with their intended charge.
"Canadian Air force flight lead, this is Black Knight lead, we have you on radar, preparing to take up station."
The Canadian flight leader responded in kind and the flight of four Canadian fighters peeled off from their charge as the American fighters took up station.
"Sierra Charlie one-two-niner, this is Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard of the United States Air Force, we are taking up station on your six o'clock. Welcome to American airspace."
"Ho, Ho, Ho!" was the only answer from the unusual airborne contact consisting of a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer, driven by a rotund elderly man in a red suit as the flight of four F-15's dropped into the finger five formation with his sleigh in the lead position.
John Sheppard knew it was going to be a long night, but so very worth it.
Meanwhile in the Castle loft:
"Okay Pumpkin, you know it's past bedtime," Richard Castle whispered to his daughter as they sat at his laptop. She'd been curled at his side for the better part of an hour watching Santa's progress through Canadian airspace on the NORAD official website.
"Okay daddy," Alexis whispered and dropped from his lap without complaint, double checked the plate of cookies and the carrots for the reindeer before taking her father's hand and trotting up to bed at his side, allowing him to tuck her in.
Castle opened up "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" until he was certain she was asleep and headed downstairs wondering for the hundredth time how he had been so blessed to have such wonderful child.
As much as the split with Meredith had hurt him, he was thankful to be able to spend such moments alone with little girl, to have a career that allowed him to spend so much quality time with his number one priority. To give her everything that his mother hadn't been able to growing up.
"Good night, Pumpkin," he whispered, ghosting a kiss to his daughter's forehead, before tucking her in with Monkey Bunkey, "Merry Christmas."
Merry Christmas everybody!

Sorry, I was out of town busy skiing, getting sick, and watching fireworks with childlike wonder and awe. Was meaning to post this.
