FYI. I have seen it mentioned that Monday Night Football preempted ABC programming in Buffalo and, more importantly, Boston.

Here are the early numbers. Please don't get too excited as these numbers are considerably inflated by the MNF preemption. So expect a significant downward adjustment with the final numbers.
That being said, Castle's early numbers are 1.5 in the demo and 8.02 million viewers. NCIS LA is 1.2/7.68 and Blindspot is 1.9/6.97.

The show runners didn't seem at all worried about this seasons numbers. I guess they do look at the +7 numbers and the DVR numbers?

As expected, final numbers adjusted down significantly. But, Castle continues its incredibly consistent run. Castle 1.1 in the demo and 6.65 million viewers. NCIS LA 1.2/7.80 and Blindspot 1.9/7.03.

Dumb questions. 1. They seem to be coming in 3rd place or tied for second this season. Does that sound right? 2. If the above trend continues, will ABC look at overall numbers or compare them to Blindspot and NCIS LA?

If the above trend continues, will ABC look at overall numbers or compare them to Blindspot and NCIS LA? Castle has been finishing third every week. Often 1/10 behind NCIS LA in the rankings. To me the interesting thing is both Castle and NCIS LA have the same demo and viewer totals every week which suggests they both are down to their core. It doesn't really matter how Castle performs against the other networks (although given its lead in maybe it could effect whether to leave it on Mondays). What seems to matter most is how Castle's demo compares to the demo of ABC's other scripted series. In that regard, Castle is not having a very good year. But, ABC's new hour dramas have not done well. It also does not seem ABC is expecting much from its mid season shows. So, in that sense, Castle's consistent performance and predictable audience may work in its favor. But, as an older show Castle is expensive to produce at this point. But, it is in house which saves costs. But, who knows if Nathan and Stana would resign. This is a very long winded way of saying it's too early to tell Castle's prospects.

Again, thanks for your explanations, castle88!!! ive corrected it, and it was probably obvious given the rest of the answer, but my answer should have said "it doesn't really matter ..."
