I must admit this episode did not impress me. There were a few nice callbacks in it. Kate in season 3 hair, 3x11 awkwardness as she's aped by another actress, the whole "I know who the killer is" thing, but as a whole I found the pacing rather jumbled.
Kate flirtiing intensely with Valentine right in front of her husband, twirling her hair and giving him love eyeballs really turned me off. Kate would have elbowed Castle in the ribs and made him sleep on the couch if he did that?
I wanted to like this going in, but it just didn't resonate with me after that.

So enjoyed your review, Christine/PTVJ!!! You captured and conveyed the romp and fun--and the love and family!!! I loved 7x22 DEAD FROM NEW YORK for all of the sweetness, comedy, the CASEKETT dance and the post-arrest bow, CASKETT--ALL, Martha/Rick, even RYSPOSITO'S matching ties!!! Costumes marvelous, too!!! Stana and Nathan superb!!! Loved the hair and running in heels comments--and Kate's callback hair twirling--THE THIRD MAN is a huge favorite of mine!!! "I know who the killer is"--awesomesauce, again!!! Kudos, TPW, Jeannot SWARC, Luke and wardrobe, Alfred SOLE and set design, Robert DUNCAN and Tricia HOLLORAN and music, hair and makeup--Liz WILIAMSON and Ed MORRISON, as well as to editing, cinematography, lighting--the entire cast, crew, and team!!! Stana and Nathan--perfection!!! Susan--a treasure!!! Jon and Seamus--gifts!!! Fabulous, 150th Episode--congratulations to all!!!

Enjoyed reading your review and capturing some of the great moments from this ep. I, too, loved the serious moment between Rick and Martha which brought tears to my eyes. And it was also a thought-provoking moment regarding social media and its sometimes negative consequences.

I figured that was going to be a sticking point for some. As much as I can't say I loved that part, I did like Castle's reaction where he was allowed to show his jealousy and even pushed Valentine a couple of feet back from Kate.

I saw this as more of a "fan girl" flirtation and I loved Castle's reaction. I can definitely see myself doing a fan girl flirtation with certain actors/people.
I would equate it to a wink...and I know I've said this before, but I miss those days...it was a completely natural gesture when I was growing up and I would love to see it come back. Well, ya know, I'm OLD enough that it would be a truly fine thing in my eyes!!!!!!!

As much as I can't say I loved that part, I did like Castle's reaction where he was allowed to show his jealousy and even pushed Valentine a couple of feet back from Kate. It wasn't just that. Like I said, the pacing felt off. It felt jumbled to me. I know it was the 150th episode, but it felt like they were trying so hard to throw in so many call backs that it threw the pacing off. Like I said there were individual moments I liked (watching Kate get all creeped out Nikki Heat style for one never gets old) but the episode as a whole just didn't resonate with me. But yeah, upon reflection, Kate flirting shamelessly with Valentine right in front of Castle felt like a callback to the whole Eric Vaughn thing, only this time instead of pushing him away, Kate was playing along like she would do him right there on the couch, instead of the callback to her reaction to meeting Joe Torre I'm certain they were actually going for. And then for her to excuse it like it was nothing (when we all know Kate would go ape sh*t if he did the same thing and has...more than once) bothered me a little. Having an episode that didn't do it for me normally wouldn't bother me (it happens, every season has had at least one episode that I just won't bother watching again ) but one episode away from the finale and with season 8 still in the air I had hoped for better from this one is all.

I enjoyed the episode, however, being that it was episode 150, I think I expected more. Nothing really disappointed me. As far as the flirting thing, it came across to me more like Kate being taken aback at Danny invading her personal space and she was a little star-struck. I can guarantee you that I would have the same reaction if Nathan Fillion got that close to me and was being charming and a little flirty. I had my picture taken last year with Nathan and my husband at a Comic Con and I had a physical reaction (shaking hands, trouble breathing, etc) being that close to the man. My husband was completely understanding of my reaction. And like he says, "You're coming home with me and sleeping with me, so I'm not worried."

I never thought I would ever use these words in this particular order, but..... I think Stana may have oversold it a little. That's all I'm saying. Don't get me wrong, I am a MAJOR Gregory Harrison fan, have been since I was eight years old. (Logan's Run) I would definitely be all fanboy if I met him. I would have LOVED at bit more of that "creeped out Beckett" thing. (like in Nikki Heat) That was the highlight of the episode for me. I could watch that scene over and over again. I think this episode sums up my feelings for season 7 in microcosm. There were parts of it I REALLY REALLY loved, (some more than I thought I would) but as a cohesive whole, it was not up the show's usual high standards. But that is just my opinion. Hollander's Woods sounds like fun though.

Loved the review Christine. My only thing was that Beckett really did put the flirt routine on a little too much with Valentine. I can't believe that she is still doing nonsense like that. However, my initial response was that this was kind of a spoof on Castle and Beckett with the skit and all, so why not. It showcased the inner Fan Girl in her. But Rick ain't putting up with it, so it's all good. The joke was on them as they were the focus of a comedy sketch where they actually became themselves. But Kate, tone down the attraction nonsense. If you go to the Senate, don't go there. LOL

LOL Yeah, I really think they were going for a nod of something between her Joe Torre fan girling and her talking to Brad Deckker on the phone in The Third Man but in this case, the more blatant flirting irked a lot of fans. What saved it for me was Castle's reaction. I thought it was great that he no longer has to hide when he's jealous and can do something about it. I gave a little cheer when he pushed Valentine out of Kate's personal space. If it weren't for that, I might have felt differently about the scene.

I read lately somewhere: "Castle is all fiction. So don't pretend it has to be realistic all the time....."
Was it Andrew S. Marlowe who said it?
