Toks looks like she'll play well as a guest star. Jury still out on Vic since we have yet to see him. It was time for Alexis to move into an adult role and this really seems to suit her.I've always had a thing for red heads and....she's a local girl. Texarkana,Tx. If we are going to introduce used mythology,Bracken's definitely our guy. No one pulls Beckett's strings better than Bracken. Couldn't believe she lost her bracelet at the crime scene. May have left it as a clue for Castle.
Still not sure I'm in favor of seperate Beckett and Castle. Captain / Privare Eye??? That's going to take some getting used to for this fan.
I'm at work and will post more a little later on. Overall.......... premiere season 8 gets a "B" .

I was watching Nathan's Twitter feed during the east coast airing. He does a great job of tweeting without spoiling for people who have not seen the episode. The spider scene he said "I had Bill Roe try the spiders on his face first to make sure it was safe. But we used bigger spiders on him." TP Winter tweeted that the spiders were all real. Another tweet said that Nathan didn't even flinch at the spiders. I think Nathan likes spiders. I remember another hairy spider on Nathan's face a couple of seasons back in a pet store. I couldn't watch the spider scene. Â I covered my face with my t-shirt. Â My girls were freaking out. Â Nathan's certainly brave! I bet Stana played with the spiders, lol! |

Can't wait to see the next ep. I plan on watching XY again, and then XX ...
Just some quick first impressions...I will really have to see how things settle out as the season progresses.
Very touching first scene, a little humor.
Way more action, noise, shooting, etc than normal....I hope this is not going to become a steady diet, a little of this goes a long way in my book.
Did not like Alexis' glib comments in the opening, but some of her other scenes were much better.
Loved the "competition" between Ryan and Espo in the early part of the ep.
Jury still out on Toks...not warming up to her character yet. I didn't care for her "mentoring" suggestions to Alexis about using feminine wiles to get what you want...I know it happens in the normal course of life but when I think of mentoring, I think of something a lot more substantive and less stereotypic than that.... the nanosecond "bonding" was pretty unrealistic.
At this point, without knowing Kate's side of the story, I don't have a problem with her "lying"....given the right circumstance, i.e. saving someone's life, it would seem to be the right thing to do.
Looking forward to next Monday!

Alright, I finally decided to watch "XY". Not sure how I feel about it yet. Wasn't the Castle I fell in love with for sure and I've never been a fan of the dramatic episodes, with a few exceptions. The opening Caskett scene was cute as most tend to be so that was a good thing at least. It was good to see Espo being nice to Castle for once. You can always count on Rysposito for a laugh. I actually laughed at Castle when he came around the corner toting 2 assault weapons. Lord. I'm glad they addresses Gates' absence with a promotion. Hoping that leaves the door open for PJJ to possibly make a guest appearance. Probably not but I can hope. I sure miss Martha when she isn't in an episode. I keep telling myself that Susan enjoys not working all the time and is completely happy with her "light" role as Martha. Nathan is looking great on my screen so far, much better than he has in the past.  Sorry, but I still don't like seeing too much of Alexis and this episode was definitely Alexis heavy. Ugh. How in the world can Castle be clueless that his daughter has practically taken over his PI business?? And she forged Castle's signature for college credits?? Just no. Hoping her presence 'calms down" in future episodes but I'm so worried that it won't. The instant bonding with Haley and Alexis was a little weird but whatever. And seriously, why was Alexis even at the precinct to be able to barge in on the boys questioning Haley?!?!? I don't know, just not a fan of Alexis at all. Can't help it. I will say that I like Molly's shorter hair. Jury is still out on Haley. She was ok in this episodes but I don't know that I can tolerate her for the long haul. We have Beckett going off grid in the first hour or so of her new job and lying to Castle yet again (I didn't like Castle lying to Beckett or going off to Montreal and not telling her either. Goes both ways for me). I don't like that at all, no matter the reason for the lie. I know we don't know the whole story yet and maybe things will be better next week but I thought we were beyond all that when they exchanged wedding vows....."partners in crime and life". <sigh> I really really don't want to go down this whole Beckett lying, Beckett obsessed, Beckett going down a rabbit hole thing again and have to watch Castle scratch and claw to get her back. I thought we had moved past that but maybe not, depending on where they go in "XX". <double sigh> I don't know. The ratings weren't great and I don't think the show can afford any more major stumbles. Too much Caskett separation and/or too much focus on Alexis, Espo, or Ryan will do just that in my opinion. I know it remains to be seen how they will work the Caskett dynamic with the whole Captain and PI bit but everything I've read leads me to believe that there will be a hefty amount of Caskett separation. <JMO> Anyway, it wasn't terrible but not the best episodes for me at all. Maybe it will all make more sense after I see "XX" but I'm already ready to get my fun, wacky, light-hearted Castle episodes back. |

Upon first impression, Ryan complaining to Esposito about promotions was a plot device to explain Gates' removal from the show but upon further pondering I wonder if it's also foreshadowing one of the Boys becoming team lead or will they have Hayley Shipton assuming the role Beckett vacated?

Here is an article about Nathan and the spiders. Maybe he did freak out more than he said? Nathan did say in a tweet that he knew about the spiders weeks before, unfortunately. I got so bogged down in what I didn't like that I forgot to mention that I really liked Alexis sticking up for Beckett and reassuring Castle this time around.
