I generally read 2 books at a time. I call myself a plodder. In a book with long chapters, I will read 2 chapters a day. Someone like James Patterson, I will read 10 chapters a day. I spend 1 1/2 to 2 hours a day reading but remember, my friends, that I have the time to read. Ibmjas, if you took a month to read a book, that would be 12 in a year. Just a nice easy way to pick up something you once enjoyed but only if you have the time. Christine, Rikki liked the Opposable Thumbs book and will probably read it. We, too, loved Siskel and Ebert.

I read Private London by James Patterson and Mark Pearson. It's the next book in the series. It's just as excellent as the previous books. I also read Sentinels of Fire by PT Deutermann. It is another historical fiction of the USN in WW2. The quality of the story and writing remains excellent. I finished both books this weekend. My next 2 books are: 1. King Me by J.A. Crawford. It's a Private Detective novel. I have never read this author before. 2. Death Comes Too Late by Charles Ardai. It's a collection of 20 short story mysteries by a guy who is famous for his short stories. I will let you know what I think of both books

It was hard to keep track of all the characters. I gave up on the book of short stories. I found them too depressing for my taste.

My latest books are:
1. The Commodore by PT Deutermann It is another historical fiction novel of the USN in the Second World War. Wonderfully written like all the rest that I have read.
2. First Frost by Craig Johnson. He is the creator of the Longmire Tv show. We loved the show but I have always felt that the books were even better. He typically puts out 1 a year in September so this one is a little early. I haven't started yet but will report on it. His books are always one of the highlights of my reading year.

I will be downloading the new Michael Crichton/ James Patterson book "Eruption". His wife found the incomplete manuscript and asked Patterson if he would help complete the book. My favorite reader "Scott Brick" is doing the audio book. This will be a wonderful way to spend 11 hours driving home.

Rikki is reading Eruption now and kind of liking it. Be interested to hear your thoughts, Teresa. I just finished First Frost by Craig Johnson. If you enjoyed Longmire on TV, you will love the books. It's a case where the books are better than the TV show. At this time, I am reading: 1. The Heist- an Isaac Bell mystery, First written by Cussler but now penned by Jack Du Brul. These have all been good. 2. The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club by Helen Simonson. Set in 1919 after the First World War. It's the story of women who, during the war, held jobs of estate managers, plant managers, accountants, and other jobs typically held by men. With the war over and men returning home to reclaim their jobs, women are being told to go back to the way things were before the war. Not so fast. These women were very capable and self sufficient and do not want the old ways. This is their story. The book started a little slow but is getting much better as I get into it. A really good read

I enjoyed Eruption. I'm sure we will see a movie made from this book. I ended up listening to music for the last part of my drive home.

My current reads are:
1. Eruption by Patterson. I am very much enjoying it. 2. Death in Le Jardin by Ian Moore. It is the 4th book in the series. They are set at a B&B in the Follet Valley in France. They are very humorous and well written mysteries. Fun to read.

I was introduced to The Backyard Bird Chronicles by Amy Tan when my buddies from California were here this summer. We are all avid birders, and I have never read any of her novels nor seen any movies based on her novels, but this book is fascinating. I have only made it through the foreword and introduction, but have looked at all her illustrations (I have to pace myself, you know ), but her drawings are fantastic and what snippets I have read about bird behavior and her observations have been really interesting and entertaining. Since I'm pretty slow going with my reading and had to return my copy to the library, I decided it was a beautiful enough book to purchase and have on hand, and READ the whole book!!!!!!!!

Welcome, Jane. I will tell Rikki about the Amy Tan Book! My current reads are: 1. Private Games by James Patterson and Mark Sullivan. This is a story about Private, the world's most renowned detective agency. This one is about a psychopathic killer who wants to destroy the modern Olympic Games. This is an ongoing series and they are all very GOOD and need not be read in order. 2. Hard to Kill-A Jane Smith Thriller by James Patterson and Mike Lupica. Jane is an attorney dealing with stage 4 cancer and a client accused of a triple homicide. Just weeks before, she had gotten the same client acquitted of a triple homicide. He wants her to defend him again. Guilty or not?? It is a really good book thus far.
