Can you believe this is the last week of Jan already. This month seems to have gone by fast but with so much going on it also seemed to take a long time. We are having a nice rain today. We need rain so bad. My kitties are hanging around today to stay out of the rain. They have only experienced rain a couple days. I have been home the last week. I bought some wood puzzles. They are so fun. With my cats I can’t do large puzzles. I can do these on a small table. When I can finish them in one sitting so the cats can’t knock pieces down it’s good.

Just scheduled COVID-19 Vaccination 2 for Monday, 15FEB21 at 0920. They really have a smoothly running operation here in Winchester. They involved students for local college in all phases: injections by student nurses supervised by their instructors; required waiting time before departure area over seen by nurse practitioner students supervised by their instructors, and automated operational controls of entire operation by students in computer science program supervised by their instructors. Local golf course even providing carts to shuttle less mobile people from and to parking lots in golf carts. As of today, Winchester population of about 25,500 has had 2,245 confirmed cases with 20 deaths.

We registered at 2 places to get vaccine, Meijers and our healthcare provider. Our provider said they would contact us when we could get an appointment. I was contacted. My wife, who is 77 and has had cancer 3 times was not. Meijers had us fill out a simple form to apply. A few days later , we both were notified to set up an appointment. We both got our first shot yesterday and have an appt. for our 2nd shot on Feb. 16. No muss. No fuss. Our healthcare provider STILL has not contacted Rikki. Needless to say, we are highly disappointed and they will be getting an earful at our next appointments. VERY HAPPY to get our first dose We will still have to be careful though. It takes time for vaccine to be effective and time for the general population to catch up.

I've been following epidemiologist, Dr. Eric Ding on Twitter. He stated that because of the highly contagious mutations that have occurred in the Covid virus, it is now time to start wearing KN95 masks. Thought I'd pass it on.

I've been following epidemiologist, Dr. Eric Ding on Twitter. He stated that because of the highly contagious mutations that have occurred in the Covid virus, it is now time to start wearing KN95 masks. Thought I'd pass it on. My all women's camping group gave everyone a free sealed KN95 mask at our October campout. I was saving it for when I was able to fly again. I guess I might have to get it out. I have a great mask that I am using at this time It is 2 layers plus it has a removable filter that I change out ever couple of weeks. I just bought 10 new filters as they can't be washed. The cloth masks can go right in the wash. I keep one in the car, RV, and hanging on the front door. I am still pretty much hanging at home. I heard this news also today or yesterday on one of the programs I was watching.

I've mostly been wearing cloth masks. Sometimes I put a coffee filter in them to increase their effectiveness. I haven't ordered KN95s for me yet but I just ordered some for my brother who is older an has more health issues.

marschg - I’m so jealous! I’ve always wanted to visit Key West, and you picked a great week for it as you were able to escape this cold. larryholmes and geezer2008,, I’m so glad you’re getting the vaccines. My mom and step-father are scheduled to get it in California on Feb. 1st. My Mom is really excited because she hopes that means that once they get the second dose and wait a few weeks, they’ll be able to fly back east for a visit. It’s been over a year since she’s seen her granddaughter! Unfortunately, here in NJ, my Dad is still on a waiting list with no date set. So far, my recovery from surgery is going well, although physical therapy knocks me out and makes my leg hurt more that night. Sleep is my biggest issue. I have to keep my leg at a certain angle while I sleep and I have to sleep on my back. I can’t wait until I’m cleared to sleep on my side! But every two to four hours either my hip hurts or I get leg cramps and the only thing that makes it better is if I get up and walk around. So I’m tired a lot. I’m told this is normal and can go on for several weeks post surgery. But I’m getting around okay on a cane. The only problem I’ve really had is that our heat went out yesterday and is was about 19 degrees! We live in a two-family home and the thermostat is upstairs. So, I wasn’t able to climb the stairs to check the thermostat and I couldn’t use the stairs to get down to the basement to check the pilot light. So it was a cold, cold day that had me bundled up with two sweaters until it all got fixed hours later. Have I mentioned how much I HATE the cold! One day I really do hope we move to a warmer climate. My cousin, in Florida was sending my photos of her pool. It was 78 degrees and sunny. I want that!

I checked out my state's (Indiana, pop 6.7 mil) stats for Covid. Less than 10,000 dead. 500,000 have received their 1st vaccine dose. 127,000 are fully vaccinated. 50% of those having at least the 1st dose were over 70 (the only age group allowed right now). Twice as many women as men have been vaccinated. I don't know why that is. Maybe there are a lot more females in health care than males and they were the first group or maybe men are less inclined to get vaccinated. IDK. We need to vaccinate 5 mil for herd immunity just in our state.
