I think they missed so much not letting Castle help her with her recovery. I thought it was strange that Kate didn't even call Lanie. I thought they were supposed to be friends. I always thought we should have seen more scenes with these two women talking things over. I could sure see why Castle was upset with Kate. We got our first swing set scene. That swing set sure plays a role in future episodes. This also introduced us to Victoria Gates. They wanted to stir up the dynamics at the precinct. They sure did with "Sir" Here is the synopsis: Beckett fights for her life after her shooting while the 12th precinct gets a new tough captain, Victoria Gates. www.jigsawplanet.com/?rc=play&pid=232aed499bb7What did you think about this episode? I will be late posting next weeks puzzle as we are heading up to view the total eclipse which will happen next Monday.

I always felt that Rick let her off the "hook" pretty easy after what she pulled that summer. As soon as He followed her to the swings, Kate knew she was off the hook for what she had done and it was just a matter of reeling him back in. He was upset for all of about 5 minutes after she disappeared for 3 months. REALLY It sort of felt like she just went after him to get the information he had gathered. JMO

Yes, it always seemed like Castle wanted this relationship to work and let go of things before Beckett did. Until her death flashed before her she never let herself see what had been right in front of her for years.

Tycho, the swing set was the perfect choice for a puzzle for this episode! Oh, how important it became.
While I agree that Rick let Kate off pretty easily, I was thankful that we at least got to see him express SOME anger. I liked the scene outside the book signing for that reason.
I have to admit that Gates grew on me. I adored Captain Montgomery and hated to see Ruben leave but they did do a nice job of gradually making Gates more human and sensitive while still portraying her as a strong leader.
I also have to add that some of my very favorite fan fiction stories came out of this time period. I loved reading the ones where Castle came up to Kate's father's cabin to help with her recovery. It might not have worked in TV but it made for some wonderful stories!

Yes, as much as I loved the season 3 finale where Kate gets shot, I’ve always felt that they dropped the ball a bit with “Rise” for all the reasons tycho657 and geezer2008 stated above. That Kate couldn’t even send Castle a text saying she was okay but needed time to heal really damaged the character for me, and from the pilot episode she was my favorite character on the show. For me, it was where the fun of the will they/won’t they dance ended, because it felt like Castle put up with so much for almost nothing in return. That Kate closed herself off, even from her supposed best friend, Lanie, spoke of deeper psychological issues. As glad as I was that they showed her in therapy, we saw very little real progress for Kate throughout the season, until she was hanging from a roof top. I still love the show, and many of the episodes in season 4, but it felt like they were almost actively trying to make Beckett less likable at times. There were just so many missed opportunities for real character development that I would have found entertaining. But you’re right nathanfan1, it did make for some fantastic fan fiction!
