I'm going to start a thread for this show because it premiers tomorrow night and I'm guessing a few of us will be watching. I'm so excited for this, not just because Jon Huertas will be in it, but because I was totally pulled in by the trailer. It's billed as a dramedy and every overview of the new shows that I've read has classified this one as a 'must see.' It's definitely a character driven show, which is my cup of tea, and the initial story lines that the trailer sets up, look really interesting.
I'd truly love to find a new show that I look forward to watching every week and this one holds a lot of promise! I hope others will join in on Wednesday to chat about it.

This Is Us is an NBC show and it premiers Tuesday at 10 Eastern and 9 Central time. However, I also read that this will not be its permanent time slot. It'll be moving to 9 Eastern and 8 Central in a couple of weeks, I believe. Hope you can catch it, Tycho!

I watched this Tuesday night and enjoyed it immensely. They did a good job of establishing the characters and setting up the problems facing them. There wasn't so much comedy as more light hearted moments sprinkled in with the drama. I thought the twist at the end, revealing the connectedness of the 3 birthday people, was so well done! It left me gobsmacked. I'm really curious now to see how the show will follow these main characters.
If you saw the promo, it features Gerald McRaney in the role of a doctor. His performance was awesome! He stole the show IMO.
Did anyone else watch it?

nathanfan1 I watched it the next day and loved it. I loved the reveal. I think they will have the 2 time periods and continue to flash back and forth? Jon is the Dads friend/work partner of the picture Jon posted was from their work space. I will look forward to this show. Sent from my SM-N910V using proboards

My oldest daughter and I watched it last night and we both loved it. Neither one of us saw the twist coming, but it certainly tied everything up nicely. We're looking forward to following the characters' lives and seeing how each one's experiences affect the others.

Good question, Tycho! What I'm most curious about is whether or not they'll continue with 2 time periods, or just stay with 2016. They might have just used the twist to set the stage for the characters' connectedness. I'm definitely looking forward to the next episode!

For all of those watching, NBC just picked up This Is Us for a full 18 episodes.

This week they introduced "Miguel" Jon H. character. Again the last scene reveal was a shocker. If this show goes on for many seasons Jon could become one of the leads.

Tycho, I was thinking the same thing. I kind of presumed Jon would make an occasional appearance in brief scenes based on the description of his character that we had, but now that he's appearing in both time frames and in such a central role in the present day, he might just be a bigger part of the show. I was shocked to see him at the door at the end. Points for the writers pulling off another great reveal! I really enjoyed episode 2 and am finding that I'd like to watch everything again to really grasp all that's going on. Last week and this week, they're rerunning the episode on Saturday night and I'm taking advantage of that. My husband likes the acting and the writing but he's having trouble with so many story lines going on at once and in 2 time periods. He'd prefer one central story line each week but I don't see that coming. Personally, I find the format rather refreshing. Can I just say that I adore the character of Toby? ?? He is so kind and fun!

Oh nathanfan I adore this show already and I only watched both episodes yesterday!!! Toby? Love him! Kate? Adore her and I adore that they are tackling body image issues head-on! Kevin is so easy on the eyes and that actor was my favorite Adam Newman from Young and Restless back when I was watching soaps. But honestly, right now my favorite thing is Randall! Sterling Brown is a phenomenal actor and just won an Emmy for his portrayal of Christopher Darden in The People vs OJ Simpson American Crime Story mini-series. I do agree about the shockers for each episode and i love the way they have introduced them! Many times you can see the cliffhanger coming from a mile away but not these two. At least I didn't! I was completely blown away by the Miguel shocker this week, although I am having trouble seeing Jon as someone other than Espo. And that gray hair?!? LOL. Anyway, I would imagine that we will see the flashbacks weekly that will eventually lead up to how Rebecca and Miguel came to be a couple. This may just be my new Parenthood.

I agree with all of the above. I'm so glad that Jon Huertas landed on this show and I can't wait to find out how Miguel went from being the best friend to where we see him at the end of this second episode. I loved how Randall's wife handled the father. She was polite but firm, sat him down and laid out her concerns. His story about the cat made me want to hug him and I love that the ugly cat's name is Clooney! Then she says, Well now I feel like a b itch and they all laugh. I thought that was a really great scene, mostly because there were no bad guys and it ended up in a place I never expected. CF40, I agree that this definitely feels like it could fill the void left by Parenthood.

Real life has interfered with my viewing of the show lately. Last night I finally had a chance to watch episode 3 and I'm most definitely hooked on these characters. Every storyline is interesting and has a great amount of heart and humor, plus, they've found yet another way to make a surprising reveal. In this episode we discover that Rebecca has known who Randall's father was all along so that sets up some real possibilities for conflict if the secret comes out.
I was so touched by the story of Rebecca struggling to bond with Kyle / Randall and through it all, Jack seems to be the pillar of strength. When he showed up alone with 3 babies at the doctor's office, I was more than impressed! I loved that we got more of the doctor and his sage wisdom too.
I feared we'd seen the last of Toby (whom I adore) when Kate was willing to follow Kevin to New York, but Kevin stepped up and forced the separation, which seems healthy for both of them. I doubt that it'll last but I REALLY want to see Kate become someone on her own and I sincerely hope that Toby remains in her life.
I'm still dying to know why Jon Huertas character is now grandpa and what happened to Jack! There was a hint that we might meet him in the next episode so I'm off to try to watch #4 today and then I'll be all ready for tonight's new show.
