Great job as usual, Christine. I was feeling bad for you thinking you'd have to write a review for the season finale version. We were given only 30 extra seconds but I think they make this episode bearable.

I would have been livid, even though I basically knew it was coming.

Well, yesterday evening was the last broadcast of season 8 of Castle in the Netherlands. My God, it was much worse than I expected. My first reaction after racing through this trash was: 'idiots!" Terence Paul Winter & Alexi Hawley have killed Castle as that originally was. It ended up as being a mediocre disposable Pif Paf pouf (in Dutch: pief, paf, poef!)series. Stupid plotholes, stupid shootings, stupid end . It was an insult to the faithful fans of Castle. I have it (S08E22) on my DVR, but I doubt if I ever will see it again. Remembering the interviews with the enthousiastic & exited showrunners it is incredible that they believed in the quality of their approach. What a luck that they cannot make further episodes. I would not viewed them anyway. They destroyed the Castle after a siege of 22 episodes. (free photo castle Ehrenberg)

Hi Tycho! What a coincidence! Did you have there also a strong hunch that it would also go wrong with 'our' Castle?
Well, all things end. Only the now stays forever.
I'm planning to watch the seasons all over again, with the exclusion of season 8.

That was a great summary of what went wrong with Castle over the last 2 seasons. Whom ever made the choice to run away from the core of the show and make it all about Castle, I hope they read this and realize that the numbers don't lie. They had a formula for a hit for many years but someone made the decision that they knew better and killed it. I can see why Terri & Andrew left and were heart broken when they saw their creation being torn apart.

I agree, great summary! And how I wish everyone involved in the vision for Season 8 read it!
I just disagree with one point: I don't see it as bad that they tried to explore more Castle's character in Season 7. I think that, for a show to continue, it does have to explore new avenues. And it would have been interesting to have some good writting about Castle's character and how he became a writer. But, of course, that should have been done while preserving the success formula, meaning continuing to develop Beckett's character and focus the show in both of them. For me, Season 7 was not that bad, but in Season 8 all vision and the story's premise was completely ruined. Hawley's cliffhanger is the last straw. How can a showrunner have such a narrow vision? He would have completely ruined this amazing show.
And while I'm glad it ended, at the same time it is sad that this amazing and rich characters cannot have their story continued. I think that with a good vision and good writting we could have many years of their story. Who knows? Maybe in the future....

I agree Joana. Developing Rick Castle and giving us more of his background wasn't a bad idea, they just never did it well. Looking back, I wish we had had the wedding in 6x23 and then the season 7 story arc could have been about Hollander's Woods. Beckett and Castle could have explored that mystery together throughout the season instead of packing it all into one episode at the end. But I still enjoyed many episodes in season 7, where as season 8 was a disaster from beginning to end.
