Here are the early numbers. Castle had 1.1 in the demo and 6.86 million viewers. Blindspot was 1.4/5.72. We will see if the final numbers bring any adjustments.

SK is still in the show, let's wait to see what happens when she is no longer a part of Castle especially if she is killed in the last episode.

I hope ABC is smart enough to realize that these ratings are not the same as it will be in season 9, after Stana has left and after everyone has figured that out. I hope they were not waiting for the ratings to make a decision.

Final numbers. Castle stayed the same at 1.1 in the demo and 6.74 million viewers. Blindspot dropped to 1.3 in the demo and 5.61 million viewers. I would point out that my guess is at least 90% of viewers - and probably much more - have no idea Stana will not be back. And, for that reason if the show is renewed I don't think her character will be killed. I may be cynical, but ABC wants eyeballs on that first episode. And kill g Stana will turn off lots of people who are not attuned to what's going on.

I agree, castle88. The season finale is supposed to be a cliffhanger and the showrunners said that the series finale has an additional scene so that people are not left wondering what happened. So, I don't think they make Kate's death a fact in the finale. And I also think that's because they want to leave with a cliffhanger that brings people back in 9x01. I think it will be then that we'll see Kate die and have the time jump after.
Maybe that's the reason why the new Nikki Heat book is coming out in October and not in September as usual. They want it to be released after the premiere and after confirming Kate's dead so that they can put a special dedication in the book from Castle to his deceased wife. And so, they ruin the books too..... I guess I'm too speculative today :-)

Personally, I'm betting they end it with a cliffhanger and then do an immediate time jump in the premiere, relaying verbally that she died but never showing us the event. In doing so they can downplay Beckett's role from the start and go right into the new and improved version of Castle.
Just my guess...

All I can say is there is no let up on Facebook so many different theories and some are saying ABC with the outpouring of dissatisfaction will have to do something, I hope it ends, last nights episode to me was so painful to watch there was no chemistry, and to me you could actually feel tension, just not what this show was ever about, very sad to see and difficult to watch and so very little of Beckett
