Is it just me or do others agree that these last few titles read like a very bad joke in light of all that's come to pass?
8X18 Backstabber
8X19 Dead Again
8X20 Much Ado About Murder
8X21 Hell To Pay
So tonight - as has been the case for the past 2 weeks - there's hell to pay. Maybe it will give us something a little different to discuss. Please join in.

Tonight's episode was just....meh.
Looked like a misplaced Halloween episode. A few light moments, but overall not a favorite. I really don't mind Castle's off the wall theories, but I don't like when it carries through the whole show and he really seems to believe it. It just makes him look ridiculous. I can't blame Kate for her exasperation with it.
The ending scene with Castle and Kate spooking Alexis and Haley at the P.I. office was fun.

Not a fav. I'm don't like creepy/satanic/occult stuff, so this one is probably not gonna get watched again. Felt like they were trying to set us up for next season without Kate in the scenes that had Hayley, Ryan, Espo, Castle, and Alexis. Did not like!

Agreed, I thought take Kate out of this episode and this is how season 9 will look like, Castle Ryan and Espo building theory together without Kate just not the same, as I have said before I am not watching season 9,

I agree with Motown - that episode belonged in October. It had it's creepy moments and the music really added to the feel, but seeing it tonight felt kind of out of place. I have a very BLAH feeling about it and not too much to say.
I'm REALLY not liking the way Hayley and Alexis hang out and drink together.
I do enjoy how our resident Irish Catholic, Ryan, is able to keep up with all the Latin and religious references.
Javi was his typical skeptical self towards Castle but tonight it didn't seem to be so mean spirited.
I didn't get any sense of Caskett. Even the few scenes they did together had no emotion for me.
Basically, this episode was just another on the long list of dissatisfying ones this season. As I've said before, the show I loved ended with season 7.
That sneak peek at the finale turned my stomach emotionally but my common sense has me wanting to laugh at the absurdity of it all. They're going to go from telling us practically nothing about LokSat all season long to wrapping up the whole arc in 42 minutes. How in the heck can that be considered good story telling? I already have the feeling I'll be assaulted with over-the-top anxiety and way too much violence in an effort to make this seem like a big deal when it hasn't mattered all season.
..... heavy sigh ........ One more to go.

I agree with all the comments here. The only thing that seemed normal were the boys. I just love Ryan! Hayley and Alexis...don't know what to make there, but I did love them being punked at the end. The scenes between Kate and Rick just seemed so forced tonight. The chemistry is definitely gone.

Didn't watch it last night, but did see the promo for next week, as I am sure you all did. All I can say is, it doesn't look good for Kate. Enough said. Just get it over with already. Everything ends. The Caskett Era was Camelot. I was glad to be able to experience it. But alas, I can't watch this upcoming episode unless the show is canceled. This is not the Castle I knew. The writers have successfully made Beckett a non factor. Congratulations on a job well done guys. You did it. You destroyed a show, a great love and your good name.
NO BECKETT.....NO CASTLE....NO WAY....

I did watch last night. I kept looking at my watch hoping the episode was over. Wow, have things changed. I need to go back and look at which episode (s) Adler wrote but I don't think I liked his other episodes either. This should have aired in October. They even have this episode a special Castle bridge page? Yes, the interactions between Kate and Rick are flat. Has anyone else noticed that this season we have"Rick" and not "Castle" at home? Another nod that Marlowe is gone. Terri always called him Marlowe and not Andrew so Castle was Castle not Rick very often...except this season? No I will not watch next week but I will follow the Twitter craziness that I'm sure will happen. The true end was Hollander's Woods for me. Left me will hope for the future.

All I can do is echo what you all have said. Yes, Tycho, flat is a very good word to describe Castle and Kate's interactions. Maybe it's because we all know what's coming and/or we've all been affected by the rumors of their off-screen tension — or maybe it really is objectively empty now. Or maybe it's because they just aren't together enough, and without the fun and banter of them hunting down suspects, interrogating people, building theory, and generally working together as we've come to love them, the rest is moot. A few token Caskett scenes without the magic that made them Caskett is just hollow pandering for the sake of throwing us a bone.
The absence of Castle and Beckett working together really hit home for me in this one. Remember how Beckett abandoned Josh in "Last Call" to go with Castle as he followed up on a crazy theory at the Old Haunt? And remember how he showed up on her doorstep in Demons and dragged her to the McClaren mansion with his theory about the Laird's lug? But this time, he leaves her sleeping in their own bed and goes to the office by himself to search the creepy back room? That never would have happened for no reason. And he really didn't think Beckett would want to be there when he opened a never-before-mentioned secret safe in his office in the first place? They always discover the secrets together, from the secret room in the church in Get a Clue, to the treasure in Under the Gun, the bomb in Setup, and on and on. And now that part is just gone.
Castle and Beckett sharing these types of scenes are every bit as important to the heart of the show as the love eyeballs and tender moments. But that's been gone all season, and what left is just hollow detective play by characters who are, yes, fun and integral to the overall pitch of the show, but who are not its backbone. And without the backbone, everything else just collapes.
So yeah, I watched last night with barely an ounce of enthusiasm, and that depresses me beyond reason. I am so angry and bitter, and I truly can't believe this is actually happening. It feels like deliberate sabotage, but I can't figure out WHY. Who stands to gain something by the utter destruction of this show, and why is the remaining cast so willing to be a part of this half-assed plan? How can something that is so clear to millions of fans be unseen or unbelieved by those with the power to do something? I just don't get it, and no one cares about the fans enough to give us a decent explanation.

One more to go. I did see the promo and started to laugh when I saw Rick in the medical chair...what were they doing, erasing his memory again so he forgets Kate ever existed? Look ... This is over...whatever happens is on ABC and Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb....Castle as we know it , ends next week and they are calling it the season finale, so here are...1 episode to go ...I just hope they find a way to give Kate the dignity she deserves and somehow not kill her but find a way to keep her memory in the show...I am sure the show runners don't care one way or the other, they just wanted her riff the show. I am just glad the show lasted this long.

I agree with much of what many of you have expressed!!!
IMHO, 8x21 HELL TO PAY lacked both incredible and awesomesauce CASKETT and Rick as intelligent and perceptive!!!
HELL TO PAY was for me quite boring, not the least bit interesting or captivating, a torturous retread of RC being silly with way, way too much of him being so; and I found him very, very irritating, as I did AC and HS!!!
I felt that Seamus and Jon mostly rose above the material, which, somehow, Stana, did brilliantly, even with her role as tolerant and playful and her on-screen time so diluted and limited!!!
Lanie, too, I found excellent, with, as ever, too little screen time!!!
On to the joys of RL and delight in and appreciation for the many involved in CASTLE/CASKETT, whom we, in our own ways, find so very deserving!!! All around, tons to appreciate!!!

As this may be the last episode I get to comment on after it has aired, as depending on a multitude of outcomes I may or may not watch the finale or watch it live, I thought I might give what might be my last two cents on a live episode. Overall it was just eh. It had some moments that did bring a small chuckle out of me but, overall it felt clouded. I don't know if it was the episode itself, the news over the past month, or a combination of both but, I just didn't like it as much as I normally would, when it comes to more humorous episodes.
