Well, I'm afraid there is no joy in Mudville tonight but for those of you who choose to watch, please join in and discuss the episode afterwards.

Viewing was somewhat colored by today's news. While interesting to learn more about Hayley's history, she's not a character anyone has been terribly interested in, and mostly annoyed by, this season. One does have to wonder now if bringing her in was part of a plan from last fall to try getting fans used to Castle partnering with someone else....how long have they been planning not to bring back Stana?
Sorry.....got off topic there.
Overall, a so-so episode. I was annoyed with the way Castle was portrayed in a lot of the beginning of the episode. Why must they continue with this whole demeaning of Castle? I thought all that banter was unnecessary. I much prefer the competent Castle that we saw as the episode went on. I liked that Kate treated Hayley much as she would any of her own team if they were ever put in a similar situation. Considering how little they actually know of her, it was even more gracious on Kate's part to give her the benefit of the doubt.
An okay episode, but somewhat disappointing after the last couple of really good episodes.

I watched but it was with a heavy heart, and while I usually jot down notes about things I'd like to comment on, this time I couldn't bring myself to write a single word. I won't have much to say.
It bothers me that we got a Hayley centered episode when we haven't had anything featuring Ryan this season or Lanie EVER! I've never been invested in Hayley but I do have to admit that they made me care that at least she was loyal to everyone on the team. I don't like the thought of her becoming front and center in a new version of the show but her choice to stay with the PI agency has me concerned. Time will tell.
This episode was back to being very noticeable that Nathan and Stana were working separate hours. The last 2 eps felt much more like the old show but this one failed miserably on that front. I think the scene that angered me the most was Beckett and the boys going out for drinks while Castle, Alexis and Hayley celebrated at the office. It was glaring.
The highlight for me was the final scene with Castle unveiling her old bike. What a great throwback to her past and a nice response from Beckett. Under different circumstances, it might have been one for the ages, but tonight it's bittersweet.
That's about it. I'm finding I'm pretty empty of emotion tonight.

I can't say I found this episode at all entertaining. Haley came to the show as a supposedly self centered, only cared about herself, character and for the first half of the season, she did basically nothing. Now, very quickly her walls have been broken down and she has a family. That sounds familiar, doesn't it? But it took Beckett years to break down her walls and find her own family. I found her whole instant conversion to be very jarring and totally unrealistic. I didn't believe it for a minute.
There was basically no interaction between Castle and Beckett until the motorcycle scene. A far cry from when they built theory and then looked at each other and said, "I know who the killer is." I wonder if that's how season eight will end? Kate rides off into the sunset alone for some reason.
And, no one acted at all like a cop when there was a warrant out for Haley. They just ignored the whole thing and let Haley go on her merry way. It's not like anyone has seen enough of Haley for her to warrant that kind leeway. When Castle was booked for assaulting Tyson in Reckoning, Gates cut him some slack because she'd known him for years. But Haley?
I've written 739 stories more or less following the Castle episodes. I really don't know if I can find something to write about this.
This was a major fail.

I'm finding I'm pretty empty of emotion tonight. ----------- 1) I agree it was weird to have a Hayley centric episode. Most people don't seem to care much for the character. 2) To me it was glaring that when an arrest warrant came out for Hayley, Beckett ignored it. When has she ever done that? She was all set to arrest Castle's dad in Deep Cover without even listening to his side of the story. How many times has she arrested Castle? But this woman that she barely knows is worthy of her protection? 3) I agree that it was jarring to see the boys and Beckett going out for drinks and Hayley, Alexis, and Castle having drinks separately. I've been waiting for years to see them all go out to the Old Haunt for drinks after a case. How hard would it have been to have everyone meet at the office or loft and drink together? 4) Castle surprising her with the bike is the most thoughtful thing he has done since they have gotten together. I thought he would be romantic and constantly doing thoughtful things for her but he never did (or rarely). This was my favorite moment of the night. 5) I just don't see the magical relationship between Alexis and Hayley. They seem totally incompatible to me but maybe others see it.

Well that was painful. The entire time I kept thinking about how I've hoped for an episode that centered on Lanie and how we've never gotten one and now never will but we have one all about Hayley. That will never make sense to me.

Well, this felt like a spin off. Even Ryan and Espo were pushed into background. The only redeeming scene was the last one with Castle giving Kate her bike. Not much more to say.....

So I guess they ride their Harley's off into the sunset to end the series. I watched the last scene on You Tube this morning. I won't watch it live ever again because I won't give ABC the live viewers that they want so desperately. I read all your comments. All I can say is why no Lanie centered show? Why couldn't they all rally around her? It would be ironic to have Castle save butt.
And I hope before Beckett leaves us, she sets Lanie straight on that horrible separation. It's time Kate came clean to everyone that she was the one who left her man.
And the one thing I noticed is that Kate saying to Castle that they weren't going to keep secrets from each other any more. Why must they keep on this theme? I wish this season never happened. But I was glad he gave her the bike.
Oh, by the way, I could have cared less about the episode.

I watched this episode yesterday morning before I knew any of what went on yesterday re: Stana/Tamala.... Have never been a fan of Hayley and that continues....while the writer threw us the feeble motorcycle scene, it grates on me because I feel we are being fed little bits to try to placate us...while continuing to serve up TIRED, TRITE story lines and characters..... I am soooooooo tired of the "it's complicated" retort....and last night was one of many iterations this season. And how awesome (NOT) that Hayley broke down her walls and is family.....SERIOUSLY? !!!!! I've said it before and I'll say it again....it's like they have paper bags with snippits of old lines, plots, etc. and they pull them out of the various bags and write an episode. Bag A has angst, Bag B has bumbling Castle, Bag C has Kate but much diminshed from her previous character, Bag D has new actors and actresses du jour, Bag E actually has Caskett....oops, they must have thrown that bag away....RRRRRRRRRRR UGH!!!!!! I am not watching this show, in whatever incarnation develops, without Stana....have zero interest in watching Alexis and Hayley bonding, Castle bumbling, the three of them and their celebratory drinks, an office that actually looks ridiculous with its glitter and glam.....where's the SUBSTANCE.....OK, taking a deep breath. In my heart I continue to hope perhaps the new series that Miller/Marlowe are now shopping around might be a new home for Stana...we'll see...but whatever, I will follow her to see where she goes. And I will miss Lanie, Javi and Kevin...and what could have been.

I will have them on my DVR and later in June or July I might watch. After reading people's response to this episode I'm glad I didn't watch. I think 8x17 (last week's show) was our last look at the Castle we knew and loved? Sent from my SM-N910V using proboards

I figured I'd cheat and get my Caskett fill this morning. I went on YouTube and watched the first and last scene. I too won't give ABC any numbers to talk about. If they ride into the sunset, I'll be happier (not happy, just happier) than if the "dispose" of Beckett.

After reading everyone else's comments this morning, I guess I have a little more to say.
IBM, I totally agree with you about the inconsistency of Kate letting a murder suspect continue to work on her own case. Beckett has no reason to put such trust in Hayley. If you're looking for good police work - this episode was about as bad as it gets.
Some of you also mentioned the Alexis/Hayley relationship. I do think that they've been trying to build that up as a close friendship this season but I honestly haven't felt any connection. For me, the root of it all is the push to make Alexis an adult. I'd have been more than happy to see her focusing on finishing college and finding a passion for a career of her own rather than hanging out at Daddy's office and playing spy. Why would the Alexis we came to know and love have gravitated to a character like Hayley? It doesn't fit.

"Well, this felt like a spin off. Even Ryan and Espo were pushed into background." The celebratory scenes with Alexis/Hayley/Castle vs. Kate/Javi/Kevin...it seems pretty prescient, does it not? In my head I knew this was likely driving much of what has transpired in the last 2 years, especially this year...but my heart was still hoping for Caskett and happiness and love. But no, we have had to endure this long, tortuous journey ... really... (and I apologize for being crass)... I wish they would just sh*t or get off the pot!!!!

Finally watched the last two castles. He's my ending for the season. We find out in 8xx21 that Kate is pregnant. In 8x22 they decide to do the cross country trip. It ends with them riding off. It seems clear that's the series ending finale. Perhaps the danger of closing loksat makes them realize it's time to focus on themselves. The thing is I think it can be a season finale too. We know there's an ep with the detective guy from la. I assume there is a the offer is still open scene. There's the reboot. Castle and Beckett get to LA and decide to make a full change. If Stana signs she can make an occasional appearance. If not they can talk about her and the baby once in a while. Not sure I'm thrilled with it, but at least we get Castle and Beckett riding off into the sunset.
